Charles William MARTIN served as an ordinary seaman on HMS ACHILLE in the Battle of Trafalgar of 21 October 1805.
Charles was issued the Matthew Boulton Trafalgar medal by the Port Admiral, Portsmouth. He would have been awarded the Government Grant of £4-12-6 and prize money of £1-17-6 making a total of £6 for serving at the Battle of Trafalgar.
Charles, having not served long enough by 3 years for a navy pension, retired on his prize money.
The Naval General Service medal was not issued by Parliament until 1847 long after Charles had passed away.
Charles was one of 'Trafalgar's Unsung Heroes'
